"I would not say that you do not have experience in an industry, but instead focus on your strengths. For example, I feel that my XXX skills and experience working at (Former Company) would be a nice match for this position. This way you're focusing on what you HAVE, not what you DON'T HAVE."

How do I explain my lack of experience during an interview?
Recently, during a coaching session, a client asked me if it was okay to be upfront about not having experience in a particular industry, but yet make a case for having skills relevant to the position. Here was my response:
"I would not say that you do not have experience in an industry, but instead focus on your strengths. For example, I feel that my XXX skills and experience working at (Former Company) would be a nice match for this position. This way you're focusing on what you HAVE, not what you DON'T HAVE."
