After the Interview: How to Overcome a Weak Response

If you’re like most people, after your interview you probably reflect upon the questions that were difficult and think about how you would answer them differently. However, what if there was a question that you really wish you could answer again. Maybe you forgot to mention something very important, and that important experience/skill could make a big difference in this competitive job market.

One way to overcome a weak interview response is to address the response in a thank you letter. Here are a couple examples which could be part of your thank you:

“After reflecting upon your question about XXX, I was able to successfully achieve XXX in my current position, and I will do the same for you as well.”

“After reflecting upon your question about XXX, I am confident that with my extensive experience with XXX and XXX, I will make an immediate contribution to your company’s growth."

A thank you letter gives you a second chance to sell yourself, so be proactive. Don’t let a weak interview response possibly cost you a job offer.
