Where do you see yourself in five years?
This popular interview question is often asked, so be prepared with a well thought-out plan. Your response should demonstrate loyalty and respect in reaching the company’s goals, but it’s also important to remember that companies don’t want to hire stagnant employees. They want individuals with drive and ambition, so be prepared to answer in a way that meets both the needs of the company and reflects a vision for your own professional growth.
One way to respond (which would address both of these points) could be, “During those five years my goal would be to support the company's growth with my skills and experience. In that time, I would also pursue opportunities that would allow for my own professional growth.”
While it’s hard to predict what will be happening in five years, it’s important to be prepared with a response that illustrates your commitment to the company and motivation for success.
